The body as a doorway to healing

Somatics, or body-oriented psychology, means that when you are in the therapy room, the body experience is included.  Not only is a person a collection of emotions, memories, thoughts, and beliefs, but she is also a physical being filled with sensations, impulses, and embodied experiences.  Tending to the body and listening to it's signals can offer information about stuck patterns in a person's life, and pathways towards growth and healing.  The body often holds unconscious experiences, and bringing them to consciousness starts to shift these stuck places.

Using the Body to Heal Anxiety

The body is an amazing resource for self-soothing through mindfulness and meditation.  Tuning into the body is a key element in managing anxiety.

Play

As we get older, we often lose our sense of wonder and play. We sit for long hours or push beyond our limits with over-exercising or over-scheduling. Learning to listen to our bodies on a deeper level allows us to reconnect to creative flow and the inherent joy of simply being.

Trauma Patterns

Our cells hold our stories.  Unraveling your story both verbally and by attuning to body-felt sensations is a way to unwind and heal from traumatic experience.
